Retreat, Broken Noses and Harmony at Home

Last week while I was away on retreat, chaos reigned at home.

Not ideal right?

I had booked this retreat in many months ago and was *really* looking forward to it.

Six days, meditating, journaling, eating organic whole foods prepared by expert cooks (the best!!), and connecting with like minded people. That for me is Sanctuary right there!

But the Friday before I left, with my bags packed and in the car, I received a phone call from Hubby.

He’d flown down to the snow the day before – and given I was leaving Saturday morning early I had organised Mr 13, stocked the fridge, sorted the dog, all of it. I didn’t need an emergency right now!

But alas, the Universe had other plans!

Because, you see, Hubby had phoned to tell me he’d had a skiing accident and (most likely) broken his nose.

Yep, his nose.

I know this is not your “usual” skiing injury, but let’s say it involved Hubby, another skier, and (he thinks) a very hard knock to that other skier’s helmet.

Hubby being Hubby said “I’ll be fine” – and I said “I’ll phone the doctor”. Because we all know that Monday mornings at the doctor’s clinic is not the easiest time to get an appointment!

So after this initial organising help, and realising that was all I could feasibly do at the time, I jumped in the car Saturday morning and headed off to retreat. I’d organised Mr 13 to be with family and friends until Hubby got back, and left them both with the phone number of the retreat lady’s assistant in case either of them needed to contact me. {‘Cause I was off grid and that was the only way to keep me up to date!}

And so it was, on Thursday night (after I got home) I found myself at the hospital, picking Hubby up from having an operation to fix his nose.

Sigh.

So even though I had a lovely retreat and was still able to participate, my mind in part was on the chaos unfolding at home.

All I can say is thank goodness Mr 13 is the age he is! If he’d been younger I’m not sure the week would have gone as ‘smoothly’ as it did.

And so it is that I come back to one thing that you know is important to me – the concept of Sanctuary!

And it seems that I’m not the only one who knows how important it is!

A few months ago I was asked by my friend Koichi to be a part of his free telesummit Harmony at Home. I jumped at the chance to share my message because I knew how important the concept of Sanctuary was to Koichi – and a strong message he wanted to share through his summit.

Koichi’s interview series brings together more than 20 experts – a tribe of mentors, including me! – to share advice on how to make your home the place where you can be you, recharge, and build more nourishing relationships.

I know we all need a bit of this – me included! – so if this resonates and you’d love to be a part of it, just click on the image above or sign up here.

And just as a heads up (as I haven’t shared this anywhere else!), as part of this summit I gift you free access to the Create Your Own Sanctuary DIY Kit, valued at $79 – but you have to be a part of the summit to grab it!

With much love,

Helen xx

PS If you know someone who’d like to be a part of the summit, feel free to share this post with them!
